The Latin American and Caribbean Cooperation Program in Science, Technology and Innovation (Prosul) Pepe Mujica aims to expand scientific cooperation among Latin American countries. The initiative will fund projects from consolidated and emerging research networks, as well as bilateral projects, in order to broaden the scope of regional scientific cooperation.

The program is the result of coordination among the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), and the Association of Universities of the Montevideo Group (AUGM), a network that brings together public universities from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

The Pepe Mujica Program focuses on the creation of thematic research networks among institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean, the mobility of researchers at different stages of training, and the joint development of strategic projects. Actions are also planned to strengthen regional scientific infrastructure, stimulate technological innovation, and promote science education and outreach.

The initiative has an investment of R$ 50 million, and applications are open until April 30. Projects must focus on six strategic areas: environment and sustainability; food and agriculture; energy and mining; health; information technology; and human and social sciences with a Latin American and Caribbean focus.
