[08/06/2026].

From October 5 to 9, 2026, ICTP-SAIFR will host the School on Recent Advances in Strongly Correlated Quantum Materials at the Institute of Theoretical Physics (IFT-Unesp) in São Paulo. Those interested can register via the online form by July 5.

With the aim of presenting recent advances in one of the most challenging areas of contemporary physics, the event seeks to complement the traditional training offered in graduate programs, which often do not cover important developments that have occurred over the past two decades. The program has been structured to offer an up-to-date overview of the field, combining theoretical foundations with modern research approaches.

Throughout the week, participants will explore key topics, such as recent advances in magnetism—including frustrated magnets and altermagnets—twisted bilayer materials, and numerical methods applied to strongly correlated systems. The event’s speakers are leading experts in these areas: Thereza Paiva (UFRJ), Rodrigo Pereira (UFRN and IIP), and Alex Thomson (UC Davis, USA).

The school precedes the international workshop “Novel Developments in Correlated Quantum Materials,” which will be held from October 12–16, 2026, at the Principia Institute, also in São Paulo.

About ICTP-SAIFR

The South American Institute for Fundamental Research (ICTP-SAIFR) is an international center in the city of São Paulo created through a collaboration between the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), the Institute of Theoretical Physics (IFT) at Unesp, and Fapesp. Its activities include research in theoretical physics and its applications, as well as schools and workshops for graduate students and researchers. ICTP-SAIFR also promotes science outreach and educational initiatives for high school teachers and students, as well as the general public. More information is available at ictp-saifr.org.
