The Latin American Center for Physics (CLAF) proudly congratulates Dr. Ismardo Bonalde, researcher and Head of the Low Temperature Laboratory at the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas (IVIC), on receiving the prestigious 2026 Bernard Coqblin Prize.

The award ceremony took place on September 28 at the International Conference on Strongly Correlated Electron Systems (SCES 2026), held at the Toyama International Conference Center in Toyama, Japan, organized by The Physical Society of Japan (PSJ).

The Bernard Coqblin Prize recognizes researchers who have made significant contributions to the physics of strongly correlated electron systems in countries where the field is not yet well established, or who actively foster research in such regions. Dr. Bonalde received the prize:

“For his enduring contributions to the physics of strongly correlated electron systems, particularly in unconventional superconductivity in Venezuela.”

Dr. Bonalde delivered the award lecture entitled “Studies on Strongly Correlated Electron Systems and Unconventional Superconductivity in Venezuela”.

The prize honors Bernard Coqblin, a pioneer in building global research communities and a close collaborator with Latin American scientists. Dr. Bonalde joins a distinguished group of Latin American recipients:

Elisa Baggio-Saitovitch (CBPF, Brazil, 2013)

Julián G. Sereni (Centro Atómico Bariloche, Argentina, 2017)

Pascoal Pagliuso (Unicamp, Brazil, 2022)

Ismardo Bonalde (IVIC, Venezuela, 2026)

CLAF extends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Ismardo Bonalde on this well-deserved recognition.
